CLAS Alumna Fellow Dawn Ainger: “From the Classroom to the Boardroom: My Personal and Professional Journey as a University of Iowa Alumna”

 My Personal and Professional Journey as a University of Iowa Alumna”Dawn Ainger (BS 1992, MS 1995, computer science), award-winning entrepreneur and Chairman and CEO of Genova Technologies, is the first visitor in the 2017 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Fellows program.

Join Ms. Ainger as she discusses her path to the UI Department of Computer Science as a nontraditional student, and how she used her UI education to propel her through significant personal and professional challenges. Her talk and Q&A session will be followed by a reception.

With over two decades of software engineering consulting experience, Dawn Ainger leads Genova Technologies as its Chairman and CEO. Under Ms. Ainger’s guidance, Genova Technologies has become a leading provider of custom software development for federal agencies, healthcare entities, and Fortune 500 companies. After she took the helm as owner of the company in 2001, her efforts led to a dramatic expansion of the company’s success in both the defense and healthcare sectors, with growth of over 3,000%.

Ms. Ainger holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from the University of Iowa, and graduated with Highest Distinction. It is with this foundation of excellence that she has built a reputation in the software engineering industry as a strong leader, directing Genova to employ award-winning requirements gathering and analysis to ensure a deep understanding of clients’ needs and business goals.

A trusted software expert, Ms. Ainger has given numerous presentations for IEEE, PMI, and has appeared at numerous industry conferences. Ms. Ainger has been the recipient of numerous industry awards:

  • 2013 Winner – Ernst And Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Upper Midwest Region in Technology
  • 2013 Winner – Corridor Business Journal (BJ) Entrepreneur of the Year

She also serves on multiple boards including the State of Iowa’s Economic Development Authority Board and Technology Commercialization committee. She also serves on the board of the University of Iowa’s Research Foundation.
