Naimul Hoque

Naimul Hoque is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the University of Iowa. He received his PhD from the College of Information Studies (iSchool) at the University of Maryland, College Park in Fall '24. Prior to his PhD, he obtained his B.S.c in Computer Science from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and his M.S. in Computer Science from Stony Brook University. During his graduate studies, he worked with Professor Niklas Elmqvist in the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL), one of the oldest and most well-known HCI research labs in the U.S.

Dr. Hoque's research investigates how data visualization can address key human concerns (e.g., fairness, transparency, and provenance) in AI-assisted applications. He has published works at top-tier HCI and visualization venues such as ACM CHI, IEEE VIS, ACM CSCW, and ACM DIS during his PhD.


Tasfia Mashiat

Tasfia Mashiat is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Computer Science at the University of Iowa. She earned her B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) in Bangladesh and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from George Mason University (GMU), where her doctoral advisor was Professor Sanmay Das. Dr. Mashiat's research interests lie in algorithmic fairness and AI for social good, with a particular focus on advancing equitable algorithmic decision-making in societal resource allocation contexts such as homeless service delivery systems and eviction risk mitigation.

Before pursuing her Ph.D., Dr. Mashiat served as a Full-Time Teaching Faculty at Eastern University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. During her doctoral studies, she worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for several undergraduate and graduate courses at GMU CS department, earning the department’s “Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant” award.
