The Department of Computer Science recently received a generous gift from Vetri Vellore and Jothi Vetrivelkumaran to establish the Vetrivel Family Scholarship Fund. The fund will provide one or more annual scholarships up to and including the full cost of attendance to deserving students majoring in a Computer Science Department program at the University of Iowa.
Vetri Vellore, is a 1993 alumnus of the UIowa CS master’s degree program, and former student member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). After earning his master’s, Vetri went on to earn an MBA from the University of Washington. A successful author, investor, and serial entrepreneur, Vetri Vellore is a former CVP of Microsoft who went on to co-found and chair multiple successful tech companies, including Rhythms.ai, Ally.io (acquired by Microsoft), and Chronus (acquired by PE).
“We are very lucky to have thoughtful and generous alumni like Vetri Vellore. Gifts like the Vetrivel Family Scholarship Fund are not only generous but are meaningful contributions to the success of future generations of Iowa students. We are very grateful to the Vetrivel family for their contributions to their, as well as our, success.” Alberto Segre, chair of the UIowa Department of Computer Science.
Applicants demonstrating merit and good academic standing will be invited to apply, with preference for those with financial need. Each year, at least one award will be given to a female student, according to the fund's original guidelines.
