Congratulations to Elizabeth Kleiman, CS professor of instruction and director of undergraduate studies, on her recent recognition as a “Café Barista.” The title plays on an acronym for a program known as Course Accessibility for Everyone, offered by the UI Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology (OTLT).
Professor Kleiman not only completed Course Accessibility for Everyone (CAFÉ) training, she demonstrated her mastery of digital accessibility best practices by achieving an Ally score of at least 94% on a course site for her class. (Ally is built-in to UI’s online classroom platform, and scans class ICON sites and materials to give advice on how to make them more accessible for all learners.)
After CAFÉ program participants use their training and ALLY to improve their class ICON site, they submit the site to OTLT's instructional accessibility consultant for review. Professor Kleiman’s site won her a coffee gift card and the honorary CAFÉ Barista title.
The Department of Computer Science continues its ongoing work to make its classes, materials, and websites more accessible, encouraging our staff and faculty to participate in university training on accessibility improvements.
