Interested in learning more about computer science, technology, and software in a fun and friendly environment?

ACM@UIOWA is the local student chapter of the International Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), one of the oldest and largest professional organizations in tech. We promote computing and technology in a fun and casual environment and serve as the premier Computer Science student organization at Iowa (of course, students of all majors are welcome to join!).

 What ACM does:

  • As we have done in the past, we plan on holding tech talks, professional development opportunities, and social events this year.
  • Help in landing internships: We have many current and previous members who have landed internships and full time positions at local and global companies like John Deere, Liberty Mutual, Netflix, Google, and GoDaddy etc. and have had members pursue graduate programs at top schools in the nation. We will provide resources and guidance to help you land an internship and a job through informational sessions.
  • We will also be hosting fun events like friendly Leetcode Contests to help members gain exposure to new technologies and strengthen problem-solving skills.
  • In collaborating with the Computer Science Department, ACM will be hosting an annual conference, the University of Iowa Computing Conference (UICC), where we invite speakers from across the country to present on a prevalent theme in Computer Science — this year’s theme will discuss FinTech. The event will take place on Feb. 22 and will have free food and prizes. Check out our page for more information (inc. RSVP)!

How to Join:

ACM meets most Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at PBB S181 (Join the Discord or email nnahra@uiowa.edu for more details). Come talk with us, learn more, and enjoy free food every meeting.

  • Our first meeting will be on Jan. 30, 2025 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at PBB S181
  • No sign-up required or anything, literally just show up! We welcome people of all backgrounds.
  • Join our organization’s discord: discord.gg/6dAwK4b
  • Membership dues for ACM are $5 (note this is optional) and by paying, you are added in the records as an official organization member (it also helps support the organization)

TLDR: ACM @UIowa promotes computing and technology here at the University. We offer free food, tips, and career guidance for all majors even if you’re not STEM related.
