PhD candidates Dat Hong (Computer Science - 6th year), Jeehan Malik (Computer Science - 6th year), and Muhammed Ali Sit (IGPI | Information Science - 4th year) were awarded a Ballard and Seashore Dissertation Fellowship. Fellow doctorate students Hussam Habib (CS - 4th year) and Min Zhang (IGPI | Information Science - 4th year) have received Graduate College Post-Comprehensive Research Fellowships for Spring 2023.

Ryan Policheri (2nd year MCS student) was chosen to receive the Computer Science Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for 2021-22.

Osama is a fourth-year PhD student in the Computer Science and a first-year master's degree student in Linguistics. Fellows gain practical experience in the field of educational and faculty development and work to create their own pedagogical project.

Ernest Petti (00MS) didn’t know he would want to pursue animation when he arrived at the University of Iowa to pursue his master’s degree in computer science. [...] Computer graphics coursework is what attracted Petti to Iowa. Although he knew he wanted to work in the entertainment industry, he hadn’t considered animation. As a Hawkeye, he explored a variety of areas like gaming, visual special effects, and animation—but was still unsure what to pursue.

“Growing up, Gursharan Virk dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot. But as he got older, the third-year student at the University of Iowa worried he might have to choose between his Sikh faith and his dream career. Virk returned to the U.S. for the start of his junior year of high school, and he attended Waukee High School just west of Des Moines. Unable to visit colleges during the COVID-19 pandemic, Virk chose Iowa because of the strength of its computer science program."

In Summer 2022, Rachael Chen, a student at Adlai E. Stevenson High School (Lincolnshire, IL) interned with Prof. Guanpeng Li within the IOWA-HPC Lab. The result? A paper entitled: "D2MON: Detecting and Mitigating Real-Time Safety Violations in Autonomous Driving Systems"
