PhD candidates Dat Hong (Computer Science - 6th year), Jeehan Malik (Computer Science - 6th year), and Muhammed Ali Sit (IGPI | Information Science - 4th year) were awarded a Ballard and Seashore Dissertation Fellowship.
Fellow doctorate students Hussam Habib (CS - 4th year) and Min Zhang (IGPI | Information Science - 4th year) have received Graduate College Post-Comprehensive Research Fellowships for Spring 2023.

Ernest Petti (00MS) didn’t know he would want to pursue animation when he arrived at the University of Iowa to pursue his master’s degree in computer science. [...]
Computer graphics coursework is what attracted Petti to Iowa. Although he knew he wanted to work in the entertainment industry, he hadn’t considered animation. As a Hawkeye, he explored a variety of areas like gaming, visual special effects, and animation—but was still unsure what to pursue.

“Growing up, Gursharan Virk dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot. But as he got older, the third-year student at the University of Iowa worried he might have to choose between his Sikh faith and his dream career.
Virk returned to the U.S. for the start of his junior year of high school, and he attended Waukee High School just west of Des Moines. Unable to visit colleges during the COVID-19 pandemic, Virk chose Iowa because of the strength of its computer science program."
